Interdependence
The Middle Colonies did not have everything they needed. What they did to solve that problem was trading. The Middle gave the New England and Southern Colonies livestock and grain. In return from New England, we got metal equipment, naval supplies, and ships. The Southern Colonies gave us tobacco, rice, indigo, lumber, tar, pitch, and cotton. Overall, the Mid-Atlantic Colonies were wealthy, and formed an extraordinary community.
